WINE JUDGING TERMS and DEFINITIONS

Balance
A wine can be said to be in balance when the fruit, sugar, alcohol, body and acid are in harmony with each other and no particular element dominates.
Body
Body is the feel of a wine while it is held in the mouth. It will depend on the combination of the quantity of ingredients, and the amount of alcohol and sugar present in the wine.
After-taste
The after-taste is the duration of the taste remaining in the mouth after the wine has been swallowed.
Sweetness
This is the level of perceived sweetness in a wine and is described as being:-
  Dry
No perceptible level of sweetness.
  Medium Dry
Slight levels of perceptible sweetness i.e. off dry
  Medium Sweet
Perceptible sweetness in balance with the other characteristics of the wine.
