SCOTTISH AMATEUR WINEMAKERS SHOW RULES

 

1.      BOTTLES

a)      Wines, other than liqueurs, to be shown in clear or slightly tinted, shouldered wine bottles (Bordeaux type)

Capacity 70-75 cl.

b)      Liqueur wines to be shown in any type of half bottle with type of liqueur written on the label.

c)      Beer to be shown in 50 cl. PET bottles with screw caps.

2        CORKS

a)      Wine corks to be flanged type with white plastic tops. All plastic closures are not permitted.

3        ULLAGE

a)      Wine  0.25 to 0.75 inches

b)      Beer   1.0   to 1.25 inches

4        LABELS

Only labels supplied by the Show Secretary can be affixed to bottles.

Labels to be positioned horizontally 2 inches from the base of the bottle and midway between the seems.

No markings of any kind are permitted, except competitors and class numbers. Liqueur class label will also include wine type

5    FORTIFICATION

All wines, and beers, must be made by exhibitors using the process of fermentation. Fortification by any method is not permitted, except in the Liqueur class

6        ENTRIES

      Each competitor can enter only one bottle per class.

7        WINE KITS

      Wines made wholly from kits is not permitted except in the kit class

8        JUDGES and STEWARDS

Judges and Stewards who have entered wine in the class that they are judging or stewarding can not be           awarded a 1st 2nd or 3rd placing in that class.

9        PRIZES

Certificates will be awarded at the Judges' discretion.

10    TASTING

During "Judges at the Bar", wine and beer tasting will be permitted at the discretion of the Judge. Only competitors with an entry in that class may taste the wine or beer.

11    CARE OF EXHIBITS

All reasonable care will be taken with exhibits. Any unclaimed bottles will be disposed of by the show committee.

12    POINTS

First….5 points.  Second….3 points….Third 1 point.   Class 21 will be awarded double points.  Only points awarded in classes 1 to 13 count towards Winemaker of the Year.

13    NOVICES

A Novice is a winemaker who has been a Circle member for less than two years and has not won a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd prize at a S.A.W Show

14    DISQUALIFICATION

Competitors found contravening the Show Rules may be disqualified.

15    POWERS

As regards judging, the Judge's decision is final. On matters of Show administration, the show manager's decision is final.

16    STAGING

Unless otherwise stated, Saturday from 8am to 9.45am. Entries will not be accepted after start of judging.

17    ENTRY UPLIFT

From approximately 4pm, or by permission of the Show Manager

18    COMPETITORS

All competitors must be members of Circles affiliated to S.A.W. which have paid their annual subscriptions.
